This is one thing I hate about Hollywood. There was a story that made its rounds in the blogosphere over the last couple of days about how top tier actresses like Keira Knightley and Anne Hathaway and some up and comers like Charlotte Reilly are all vying for the two female leads in the next Batman films.

There are supposedly two female roles — the bad girl and the love interest.

Could I be any more bored?

We all know these parts will be small and crappy and that the women will be sidekicks cause that’s what we’ve seen before in this franchise. Even an actress like Maggie Gyllenhaal couldn’t convince me that her part was worthy of her.

Here’s what the Hollywood Reporter says about the parts:

Dark Knight Rises needs to fill two big female roles, a villain and a love interest. Sources say one character is Talia, the daughter of villain Ra’s Al Ghul, who was portrayed by Liam Neeson in Nolan’s first Gotham-set crime pic Batman Begins. In the comic books, Talia is both Batman’s lover and antagonist, ultimately siring his alter ego Bruce Wayne’s son.

Big whoop — a female villain, and the girlfriend who will tell Bruce Wayne to be careful and gives him a kiss on the way out the door and who will probably be kidnapped by the villain and have to be saved by her man.

But because there are so few films at the studio level that have any parts for women, especially ones with decent paychecks, they all vie for these parts.

Bottom line is we need better parts for our female actresses so they don’t all end vying for crappy crumbs in male action flicks.
