Not that she was ever a shrinking violet, but Meryl Streep has gotten more vocal and outspoken of late. I’m loving it. I am officially now dubbing her spokeswoman for the cause of women in film.
She can talk all she wants because Mamma Mia has taken in almost $600 Billion worldwide.
I knew it would do well because it was aimed at an audience that has been neglected in recent years in film offerings – women. They are the last group anybody ever cares about.
She also slammed ageism not only in the film business but in all industries.
Yes, of course there is ageism in the film industry. There’s discrimination in every profession.
Look around the room. There are a lot of young women here who are journalists, but do you see any women my age? No. And if you look into the corporate corners of your company, there aren’t a lot of women there either. But we’re fighting that, and we’re making inroads against discrimination.
Will she have the highest grossing film and an Oscar in one year? Could be. How can she not be the highest paid actress?
Women have flocked to Mamma Mia! because Hollywood ignores them – Meryl Streep (The Telegraph)

Wow. Meryl deserves a standing applause. Because where I work, in regular corporate america, it’s like logan’s run a bit after entry level. The sad, sad, sad thing is, many women in their twenties or thirties say that the real fight of feminism has been won. Perhaps they don’t think the older women got very far because they are not as awesome as they are – I don’t know. I do know that things seem to work okay until you get past that “getting your career” started phase, then it stalls. The truth is, beyond entry level, beyond that coltish “one of the guys” mascot stage, there is great sexism.
