Have we entered the bizarro universe? Does every guy feel the need to direct a comic book movie? I thought that some guys would not be interested but it seems like they all are. Guess the see the big paydays and then more freedom down the road. Or maybe they just see the big payday.
I was pretty shocked to read that Michel Gondry had signed on to direct Seth Rogen in The Green Hornet. It’s not like Gondry is someone you would think about directing a comic book movie. He’s made the small but memorable Be Kind Rewind, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
According to Variety he got the gig “after presenting a vision that wowed production presidents Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach.” Nice that a male director can have vision that “wows” the boys.
As if that’s not enough Kenneth Branagh has also said fu to Shakespeare and his reputation as a thespian by jumping on the comic book horse to direct the Paramount/Marvel film Thor. It’s true that his earlier films are better than his recent ones… but Thor? Come on.
Looks like in the near future the only movies in theatres will be from comic books.

WHEN THE HELL ARE THEY GOING TO GET WONDER WOMAN FILM OFF THE GROUND?!?!?!
I am also anxious about Marvel Studios possibly doing their next X-Men film, hopefully about Storm, since “WOLVERINE” will come out soon and many fanboys have said that they should make a film about Storm, since she’s the most intriguing female X-Man superhero.
well hey,at least they can’t make all these into movies. can they ??? *gulp*

Thanks for the list. How many on there star women?
wow, wish i knew. maybe i’ll be able to give you some numbers soon…
Hi There,
I don’t know that I would say she is THE most intriguing character, but boy do I love her! In fact, I think some of the headlining women of the x-men could all have their own movies, because they have a nice combination of two things going for them: intense, far-reaching powers that would allow them to easily be solo, and complicated, in-depth storylines and backgrounds, ripe for some good characterization.
I checked that list, and Marvel has no female movies slated (at least ones that I am familiar with). And truthfully I don’t think they’ll be doing a Storm film for a long time. Unlike say Iron Man, where people were joned about his character, they wanted to do a Storm film not for the coolness of Storm, but because Halle seemed hot at the time. Now that she doesn’t, no need to.
When you guys say star women, what is your criteria? Because really all these movies will have women in there somewhere (except maybe the one about the fall of Lucifer). And there are quite a few team films slated, so they could go either way. Take Avengers – some times they have had quite a few women, other times not so much. Just by doing a quick scan, if you wanted to look at female led films, here’s what I noticed:
Wonder Woman – I’ll post about this on the higher thread, but technically it’s on the roster.
Barbarella – Say what you will about it, but the lead is female.
Witchblade – They have a poster, and not even an actor yet (I don’t think). But unfortunately visually it will look closer to the comic version than the tv version.
Red Sonja – Really could go either way, since Rodriguez is directing it.
Ghost In The Shell I have heard is awesome! Battle Angel I haven’t heard about, but both are based on manga characters which seem to be strong. And both are being done by (I want to say Cameron & Spielberg?). So these could be very good.
