Harper’s Bazaar and Tiffany’s (the jeweler) have compiled a list of the 20 most powerful women in theatre.

I really like that the did not make the list in numerical order, cause really what does that do except pit people against each other.  But, it looks like there is only one woman of color on the list which is not cool.

Question- who would be on the list of the 20 most powerful women in US theatre?  Send in your nominees.

  • Terrific to see Caryl Churchill still on the list! She is the ultimate feminist playwright of my second-waver generation.

My votes for an American list would have to include Suzan-Lori Parks (playwright) & Emily Mann (playwright/director).

  • Cherry Jones.

  • Anna Shapiro (director)
    Mary Zimmerman (director/playwright)
    Anna Deaver Smith (playwright/author)
    Suzan Lori-Parks (playwright)
    Shirley Lauro (playwright)
    Wendy Wasserstein (playwright)
    Martha Lavey (Artistic Director/Producer)
    Mary-Louise Parker(Actress)
    Cherry Jones (Actress)
    Julie Taymour (Director)
    Amy Morten (Actress)
