Bea Arthur died today.  Maude was one of the first prime time shows that dealt with the issue of abortion in a feminist way.  Here’s a scene from Maude’s Dilemma which aired several months before the passage of Roe v. Wade.

I was so sad when I heard the news. She was a great spirit, an inspiration for all females and actresses. RIP!!

God I miss the seventies! I was just a tween when Maude was on, but I loved that show and I loved Bea Arthur. This clips just takes me back to that time.

What television for women today takes women’s issues as seriously and substantively as this. Could you imagine this on television today?

I’ve never seen this clip before, so thank you for posting it. Non-tragic, intelligent, and caring discussion about choice on TV? Wow. Go well, Bea.
