Rachel Weisz Takes on Two Feminist Roles

definitely maybe 120208Rachel Weisz is attached to two films with strong feminist type characters.  The first is Whistleblower to be directed by Larysa Kondracki.

Here’s the description from Variety:

Based on a true story, “Whistleblower” chronicles the trials of a female cop from Nebraska who serves as a peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia and exposes a United Nations cover-up of a sex trafficking scandal. Kondracki and Eilis Kirwan wrote the film, which will shoot in Budapest. The pair based the screenplay on the story of Kathryn Bolkovac, who traveled to Bosnia in 1999 as a U.N. peacekeeper.

The film also has three female prodcuers:  Amy Kaufman, Christina Piovesan and Celine Rattray.

The second film is Face Value a biopic of actress and scientist Hedy Lamar to be directed by Amy Redford who got an amazing performance from Saffron Burrows in last year’s completely missed The Guitar.  Lamar helped discover “frequency hopping” which was vital to the creation of wireless technology.  So thanks to Hedy Lamar of Samson & Delilah fame you now have a cell phone.  Cool.
