An Actress You Should Know: Kate del Castillo

If you watch telenovelas  you will probably know Kate del Castillo very well (she has appeared in nine), but now luckily, the English speaking world is getting to know her better.

I saw her last year in La Misma Luna and now she has an arc on Weeds as Pilar Zuazo, a Mexican crime boss.  And, she also just signed a deal to be a face of Loreal.

Here’s what she said about her new role on Weeds to the LA Times:

“I love playing this powerful Latina woman…We’re usually either seductive, slutty women or we play maids. To play someone with power was a lot of fun.”

I’m glad that we are able to see Latina actresses break out of the typical stereotypes. Next up for del Castillo is Vidas Cruzadas,” a web novela appearing on Univision.com this summer.

Kate del Castillo is a telenovela star reborn (LA Times)
