Winslet just won $40,000 in damages from the Daily Mail which said she lied about her exercise regime.
Just so bizarre. Why does anyone care what her exercise regime is. Seems to me that these papers are finally getting caught out for lying when people fight back and say no more.
Here’s part of Winslet’s statement today:
“I strongly believe that women should be encouraged to accept themselves as they are, so to suggest that I was lying was an unacceptable accusation of hypocrisy.”
Hope she donates the money to organizations that helps work with girls on body image issues.

I am actually not too impressed by Winslet’s feminism. I am glad she won damages but she does more damage than benefit to womens body image issues in general.
She was a fat teen and so I would expect her to be more critical of the narrow Hollywood concepts of what actresses should look like. But she embraces thinness and photoshopped magazine covers and unattainable images of beauty. There is the sense that she believes “that women should be encouraged to accept themselves as they are” but only when they are beautiful like her.
