Emma Thompson on The View Talking About Sexual Slavery

Journey_NYCEmma went on The View yesterday to talk about Journey which is opening in NY today.  Kudos to the View for discussing the topic and really letting her talk about it in lots of details.  I was kind of surprised at how little Barbara Walters seemed to know about the topic but maybe she knew more and was prompting Emma with questions:

It seemed to me that she really didn’t know what sexual slavery is and was shocked to hear that there are women enslaved right here in NY.

Barbara: What do you mean by sexual slavery?

Barbara: Here in NY?

Here’s the full segment (in the segment is a great PSA on human trafficking that Emma did for the UN)

On another Emma note, Shakesville has reported that her name has now been fully removed from the pro-Polanski petition.  She is the first person to have done that and I commend her on realizing that it was a mistake.

I’m going to see the installation tomorrow afternoon.  Anyone want to come with me?

Her interview on GMA, though brief, was pretty good as well: http://bit.ly/4mB9IC

Also, the exact location is Washington Square East @ Washington Place (just west of Greene St)

See you there tomorrow afternoon!

I couldn’t believe how much the hosts of The View were in the dark about this disturbing issue. It’s wonderful Emma Thompson is speaking out about this.

Has anyone seen the writers of the Polanski petition’s response? It’s hilarious. Basically, they whine, “She changed her mind! That’s bad! She’s a mind-changer! She should never sign a petition again! Let’s start a petition for her to not sign petitions!”

‘Cause, y’know, child rape is totally cool, but suddenly realizing that you’ve endorsed it is NOT OKAY.

I did see them talking about petition hoping. They are just so wrong and sound like stupid idiots.

Emma Thompson actually said to me when I saw her at the Journey installation that Barbara Walters has no idea what sexual trafficking was. Can you believe that?

Hmmmm I find it hard to give ups to someone who put their name to that petition in the first place “educating” people about sex slavery – she has hardly shown a great attitude towards rape, and specifically the rape of a child. Taking her name off it doesn’t cancel out having put it on there to start with. But I guess it’s better than nothing…
