Emma Watts is Officially the Head of Production at Fox

EmmaEmma Watts has secured a three year contract to be the sole head of production at 20th Century Fox.  She basically took over the job last month when Alex Young left, but no it’s more official since she now has a long term contract.

But remember having a woman in these top positions does not mean that we will see any more women on screen.  In fact, Fox’s the list of upcoming films for next year is the typical boy fest aside from Date Night a comedy with Steve Carell and Tina Fey (yeah).  (I really hope that it is not a typical Judd Apatow comedy cause I will weep large tears in Tina Fey is in one of them.)  I could also be interested in Knight & Day starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz but I have no interest in The A-Team (never watched the show and will never see the film even with Bradley Cooper in it) and Jack Black in Gulliver’s Travels.

I wish Emma the best of luck in her gig and I hope that she makes a movie I am interested in so I can support her work.

Still, we need more women in power in Hollywood, even if Fox’s list for upcoming releases aren’t so woman-friendly.

Well put.

re: Apatow
I get what you find offensive and distasteful, but, I enjoyed (laughed my ass off) Superbad and even Knocked Up. I’m a feminist and still laughed and was not actually offended. Maybe because so many of the characters remind me of real life people I know, who are not always PC or waving the feminist flag. In Superbad, the boys reminded me of my sons friends. The Michael Cera character seemed like he was raised y a feminist to me.
I also liked Superbad better than Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist, which was good and cute, but, not nearly as hilariously crafted.

What a great lineup of reading again this week Melissa! I’ve missed a few days & now I have these posts as a wonderful magazine for the weekend (our Saturday morning a bit earlier than yours!) Thank you.
