I saw this when I was walking down the street in NYC last week.

Do I need to say any more? God, I hate David Mamet.

Thank god you said you hate David Mamet. Me too. Everytime I say out loud I hate him, I am accused (by MALES, nonetheless) of being a “fake playwright who don’t know shit about good theatre.”

I fucking hate, HATE, HATE, HATE DAVID MAMET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, this poster is ridiculous. The good news is the show is getting bad reviews…

Ditto. I dislike a lot of Mamet’s stuff. It’s not even as good as mediocre TV writing much of the time, not to mention the relentless testosterone fixation.

However, I’m assuming Mamet didn’t create these posters, but rather the theater that is producing it.

I agree. Just last Thursday I walked past this poster. I live in NYC, and just hated the poster. It doesn’t tell me much about the play. If anything I think ‘a black hooker’ is a character in the play and the play is about her. I doubt that is the case. The play is about two lawyers defending a white guy who raped a black woman. Not the best way to represent the play on RACE.

Whoa. That sounds majorly shit.

All I really know Mammet from is his method, which I find useful sometimes, not really his writing. Eep.

Actually the red sequined dress is a major point in the play around which the whole case in the play revolves.

The poster makes perfect sense IF you see the play. The dress (yes, that red sequined dress) is a key character. The poster is provocative and so is the play, but if you see the play you may find the connection isn’t what you expect.

But you have already judged the author and the poster so why worry about the play.

You took the words right out of my mouth, Thomas. Nothing like making a knee-jerk judgment based on the least bit of information.
