i think i would like to know how exactly she made the transition from music videos to feature film-making, who she contacted, was there some sort of ‘audition’ process?
did she fight hard to be taken seriously (given that she’s a woman)?
did she audition many girls for the role of joan jett or was this a heavily backed up decision from the studio in order to ride the twilight wave and new popularity in k.stewart which would definetely equal more dollars and interest in the aimed for market?
did she always know she wanted to be a feature film-maker?
if she did experience prejudices or sexism in any way, where and when did it happen?
seriously, who did she have to call and convince to let her make this feature? I mean she had handled cameras but to trust a novice feature film-maker with so much money!?
ps: am very inspired by her journey
does she feel that only after all these years of music video directing she was ready to take on a feature? or is this something she has wanted to do for a long time?
has working in a closely related industry helped her make this feature when it comes to contacts, problem solving, performances etc …
i know its a lot but anyway heres my 2 cents!
love the blog!
I believe she made the film for under 10 million dollars. It’s fairly standard to give a male music video or commercial director under 10 million for their first feature, even when they don’t have a short. What’s unusual is that they gave this money to a woman. Good for her! I will try to see the film opening weekend.
