Here’s to Kim Cattrall for standing up for her convictions instead of buckling under pressure. She refused to pose with an actual cougar because she hates the term and what it says about women to get on the cover of a magazine targeted at women over 40. She said no way and they said no cover. Shame on them (I don’t know what magazine did this but there aren’t many targeted at women over 40 so I have some idea.)
I really take umbrage to the code ‘cougar.’ I think cougar has a negative connotation, and I don’t see anything negative about Samantha [her 'SATC' character] and her sexuality, sensuality and choice.”
I don’t think she stands or sits in bars waiting for young men to prey on… And I think that’s something that people who are uncomfortable with strong women have labeled her.
I was asked recently by a significant magazine for women over 40 to pose with a cougar, and I refused to do it because I felt it was insulting. They took away the cover because I refused to do so.

Not too many such magazines indeed, and this is disappointing to read just a few months after my first (generally pleased) purchase of the one I expect it is.
I’d like to think they’re attempting to claim the term in a positive way, but even so, this was certainly the wrong way to go about it. Certainly a hypocritical blow to their purported goal of celebrating mature women who know their own minds.
Good for Kim Cattrall. I agree that the term “cougar” is insulting to women of a certain age. It implies a predatory female with claws who is out hunting for a younger male. I think we should coin a term for men who want women 20 and 30 years younger. Any suggestions on this one?
i have always liked Kim Cattrall, and am glad to see that she is continuing to stand up for the rights of women to speak up for themselves, be dominant and aggressive, and not put up with the any negative stereotyping or connotations whatsoever. Good for her. i think she’s great. It’s way overdue for the double standards to be eliminated.
Kim went further than that in the past. Notably, she stood up to SJP in contract negotiations. She felt that when the movies started, that all four players should share more equitably in the profits, much like the Friends actors hung together in negotiations. But the other two actors would not hang with her in these negotiations and the rumor is: fear of SJP and the other producers. What is that about, being in fear of challenging that SJP should get a tremendous amount more, plus producer credit (DVD revenues), for a part that is not much or even screen time.
Actually she felt like this during the run of the show too, since SJP made SO much more than the other actors and was made a producer (which meant she gets money off DVDS the others don’t get). Yet SJP didn’t create the show or direct or write any episodes. The press painted her like a bitch and for a time SJP made it clear to the other two actors that Kim should be treated coolly. In interviews, SJP’s handlers made it clear that she was not to be asked about these money differences or you would be cut off. So here it is: SJP was often painted as the nice, wonderful SJP, and for a time, Kim was a bitch. When all she was asking for was a raise for her and suggested a raise for the other two actors as well. And SJP would not advocate for the others at all – while on friends the “lead” actor at the time banded with his fellow actors for a great deal for all. The result of her bitchy time of holding out and being painted in the media as “kim – bad; SJP – sweet.” She triggered a better deal for the other three actors, but not as good as if they hung together.

She is a very dumb and insecure girl who blindly promotes sexist misandrist feminist hate. Shame on you Kim, shame on you for promoting marxist feminist hate.
You had some nice points here. I done a research on the topic and got most peoples will agree with you
