Debra Granik’s Winter’s Bone crossed the $1 million dollar mark this past weekend and is now playing on 70 screens including some in the midwest near where the film takes place. The film cost $2 million and it looks promising for it to pay back its investment.
Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work directed by Ricki Stern and co-directed by Annie Sundberg is now on 86 screens and has grossed approx $715,000 which is great for a documentary. The film will keep expanding in the coming weeks and IndieWIRE predicts it to top $1 million (don’t know the budget.)
And let’s not forget Please Give which has now grossed over $3 million which means that it has made back its budget and it makes it a certified hit. (To me a hit is a film tht pay back its budget no matter what the budget.) Congrats to writer/director Nicole Holofcener.

Good news about Winter’s Bone! I saw it about a week ago and found it completely gripping.
Winter’s Bone was fantastic. It felt like like it was set in a place that time forgot, and was its own little planet. It was truly excellent.
