Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis star as competing ballerinas. This film looks at little like The Turning Point meets Single White Female.
Why do women always have to try and kill their competition?
Still, it looks good. One of the better trailers I’ve seen in a long time.

it looks AMAZING!!!! I can’t wait to see this. You can tell this is a Darren Aronofsky film.
It looks like a horror film.
Why must competition between women so often be portrayed as obsessive/paranoid? It’s never normal competition.
Would it be better if Black Swan was about male ballerinas instead? Mickey Rourke in the lead?? ;)
I think it is meant to be a film about obsession, paranoia and complex relationships – writer/director Darren Aronofsky has dealt brilliantly with these themes in previous films. Ellen Burstyn got a well deserved Best Actress Oscar for Requiem for a Dream!
I caught a glimpse of Winona Ryder in the trailer too – this is going to be a cracker – can’t wait!!
I am wondering about it too- Black Swan is on the list of possible movies for the Telluride Film Festival which I will be attending- so might have a review of it in a couple of weeks.
I don’t think the other girl is trying to kill her, and I don’t think her mother is really there – I think she’s bonkers. Looks like fun.
Are the two leads trained in ballet?
I wonder if the studio was hoping the built in dance demographic and the built in horror film demographic would combine? Somehow I doubt it.
They’ll blame the lead actress for the low numbers it’s bound to pull in, in any case.
Interesting interview here – Aronofsky says he’s been talking to Portman about this for a decade, back in Star Wars days:

My joke wasn’t far off – The Wrestler and Black Swan were apparently the same project at one stage! hah!!
