The film premiered this week at the Toronto Film Festival.
Here’s a description: Acclaimed director Kim Longinotto is often drawn to tough women. Now she follows Sampat Pal Devi, the leader of the “Pink Gang,” who brings her own brand of justice to the streets of Uttar Pradesh, India, combating violence against women.

That movie looks good. I wish I was in Toronto right now.
Wow, Sampat Pal is crunk with a capital C. I’d love to see this.
Wow, Kim Longinotto has done it again. I just saw “Pink Saris” and it is brilliant, deeply affecting and personal. I love her docs and wish I could get them on home DVD, but Women Make Movies doesn’t distribute for home use. Longinotto is my very favorite non-fiction filmmaker. I was sorry to miss her retrospective at MoMA, I hope it will happen again. She casts a long shadow. The women of the Gulabi Gang are amazing, and you can check out their website and support them.
