Sexism Watch: Hollywood Reporter Writers Roundtable

by Melissa Silverstein on November 11, 2010

in Sexism

Boo, hiss Hollywood Reporter.

So tired of a whole bunch of white guys sitting around a table talking about making movies as if no one else matters.

AND I must protest since this is not clearly only about the awards since Todd Phillips who wrote Due Date and Road Trip Beer Pong?  WTF?

Double fail.

There are plenty of women who could be in this group.  How about Lisa Cholodenko for The Kids Are All Right?  How about Debra Granik and Anne Rosselini for Winter’s Bone?  How about Pamela Gray for Conviction?  How about Nicole Holofcener for Please Give?  How about Sofia Coppola for Somewhere?  Who else could have been considered?

This is the caption for the photo above: “Writers Aaron Sorkin, Simon Beaufoy, Michael Arndt, John Wells, Todd Phillips and David Lindsay-Abaire sit down for our Awards Watch Roundtable.”

You have some kind of problem with white people??

Just with them being the only people showcased.

This is insane.
One woman wins best director and picture, and everything reverts.
Guess they took care of that.
Same thing happening with African-Americans.
Black guy’s in the White House, so that’s all taken care of, and the highest unemployment rate is among Black Americans.
La plus ca change, la plus est le meme chose.

Seriously? It’s amazing. F**king amazing that there is not one female writer sat there?????

I have no words.

Apparently, no other women do either according to this industry round table.

Head. Table. Bang. 2010.

wait, wait, the Daily Show has some female accountants that work on the show, I’m sure that these guys know….like one woman behind their scenes who has some decision making power somewhere … in their lives….

I’m so disgusted. I think we should all write to THR right now.

THR have a tendency to throw in some extra well known names when they’re doing these roundtables. They’re the magazine equivalent of the Golden Globes nominating big names even when some of those performers won’t be nominated for an Oscar.
