ABC has picked up the pilots of two women-created and -written series.
“Jessica Jones” writer Liz Friedman received a formal pilot order from the network for “Conviction,” while Kari Lizer, the creator behind “The New Adventures of Old Christine” and a former “Will & Grace” scribe, will write “Dream Team” (alongside Bill Wrubel).
Liz Friedlander (“The Following”) will helm the pilot of “Conviction.” She and Friedman will serve as exec producers on the series, and Lizer will exec produce “Dream Team.”
In the 2014–2015 television season, women constituted only 26% of writers, 26% of executive producers and 23% of creators.
“Conviction” is a legal procedural centered on a team of lawyers, investigators and forensic experts who have two weeks to see if the wrong person was convicted of the crime of the week. The team’s newest member is Carter Morrison, the brilliant but rebellious scion of a Clinton-esque political family.
Variety reports that the single-camera, half-hour comedy “Dream Team” follows “Marty Schumacher, who coached his last club soccer team for ten years, ultimately taking them to the national championships — and now, he has to start from scratch with a diverse group of eight-year-olds and their disparate parents.”
