What People Think of Women & Hollywood

The Women & Hollywood website gives me everything I need to make a smart, informed, movie-going decision!   It is absolutely essential reading.

I can’t imagine life without Women & Hollywood. The site has both informed and deepened our criticism and provided a much-needed optimism to the roles of women in the American film and TV industries. Melissa Silverstein has that rare talent to combine seriousness, humor and accessibility, and more often than not, she says what we want to say, but does it better. When the books are written about the rise of female influence in Hollywood in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, Melissa’s work will no doubt be a major focus. Of course, it’s highly likely that she’ll be writing some of these books herself.

Melissa Silverstein and Women & Hollywood is the go to blog for any issues related to women and Hollywood. Her authority, sense of humor and breadth of information makes me look forward to reading it each day. She is the sole voice giving strength and power to a rising force in Hollywood: WOMEN. This where we can get our information and keep track of what movies are coming out.

Director: Just Wright, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2

I was thrilled to discover Women & Hollywood in the blogosphere. As a full time worker and mom of three young kids, it’s become my go to site to make educated decisions, not only about what kinds of media I want to watch and spend my money on, but also what media I want my kids to partake in. The writing is astute, the issues are important, and I like the site’s wide appeal because; it’s entertaining and appeals to all kinds of people.

Woman & Hollywood is a remarkable, must-read site.  Like Andrew Sullivan, Melissa Silverstein combines a strong point of view with journalistic integrity.  She breaks news.  She processes news.  She celebrates.  She condemns.  Silverstein’s intelligence, independence and lack of spin makes Hollywood & Women my most trusted industry site.
Nell Scovell
Writer/Director, Creator of Sabrina the Teenage Witch

My thesis for my masters degree was focused on women directors and Women & Hollywood was an invaluable resource. In an industry where roles for women behind the camera are both minimal and minimized, creating an outlet that makes those roles visible is incredibly important. As a journalist, I like having an up-to-date account of who’s working on what, how reviews or cultural trends are shifting, and what important projects may be flying under mainstream radar, which makes Women & Hollywood an essential part of my reading routine.

Champion and watchdog, Women & Hollywood is a site I read often because it keeps me honest about my personal commitment to diversifying the voices that contribute to film and cinema. With our industry’s abysmal track record of supporting women in front of and behind the camera, we don’t need a Women & Hollywood, we need a few hundred.
Charles Judson
Communications Director, Atlanta Film Festival

If you want more female voices in the market place, you have to support them and Women & Hollywood is the go to source for all this content. Melissa Silverstein’s blog is interesting, thorough, pointed and the best data base for current information about women and Hollywood.

Actress, Chair, Women In Film Foundation

I read Women & Hollywood regularly – because it really keeps me on top of all things women – and Hollywood.  Even though I work in London it helps me keep in touch with the larger issues and opportunities that women directors like myself are facing.  Because I am so busy with my work this site has become very helpful to me in making decisions on what films to see and TV shows to watch.
Shamim Sarif
Writer/Director: I Can’t Think Straight, The World Unseen

I appreciate Women & Hollywood because it shines a spotlight on female filmmakers who have been in the shadows way too long.
Gina Prince-Bythewood
Director: The Secret Life of Bees, Love & Basketball

Every week I so look forward to reading Women and Hollywood to find out what new films directed or written by women are opening up.  In addition, in marketing my latest film Yoo-Hoo, Mrs. Goldberg I consulted with Melissa Silverstein to guide me on how to gain more of a women’s audience.  So was so wise and helpful.
Aviva Kempner
Director: Yoo-Hoo Mrs. Goldberg,  The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg

Women & Hollywood is a great support system of information, not only for women, but also for all people who are interested in knowing more about the world of films, what is current and happening and intelligent perceptive analysis of films that are being created.
