Writer, filmmaker and activist Agunda Okeyo has announced a new monthly production called "Sisters of Comedy," which will begin at Caroline’s on Broadway on April 7.
The inaugural evening will be hosted by Gina Yashere ("The Tonight Show") and feature performances from Joyelle Johnson ("Funny or Die"),  Franchesca Ramsey ("The Nightly Show") and Sasheer Zamata ("Saturday Night Live"), with additional performers to be announced.
The monthly program will showcase "a who’s who of black women in stand-up plus a few special guests," such as feminist icon Gloria Steinem and Image Activist/CNN commentator Michaela Angela Davis.
This April, "Sisters of Comedy" is dedicated to the #SayHerName hashtag to commemorate the lives of black women and girls fallen victim to state and domestic violence in America.
Okeyo has also produced  shows at Ginny’s Supper Club and Gotham Comedy Club. In February 2016, she produced a benefit show to support an Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) in the U.S. Constitution. In addition to these achievements, Okeyo has also written for Women and Hollywood.
