Kathryn Bigelow Developing HBO Drama About Jihadi Recruitment in the U.S.

Kathryn Bigelow has finally announced a substantial project since “Zero Dark Thirty.”

The first female filmmaker to win an Oscar for Best Director is currently developing a drama for HBO. Bigelow is finding inspiration once again in America’s War on Terror; the new series will focus on jihadi-recruitment efforts in Minnesota.

Bigelow’s contributions will be as executive producer. Taking up writing and directing duties for the show will be Somali-Canadian rapper and poet K’naan Warsame.

Since “Zero Dark Thirty,” Bigelow has directed the three-minute elephant-poaching short “Last Days” and produced the drug-trade documentary “Cartel Land.”
