Melissa Leo to Star in Showtime Comedy About Stand-Up in the ’70s

I'm Dying Up HereMelissa Leo has joined the cast of Showtime’s newly greenlit "I’m Dying Up Here," an upcoming dark comedy about stand-up in the ’70s.

Leo will play a "brassy" LA comedy-club owner named Goldie. Despite the image above, Ari Graynor is so far the only other female cast member reported by TV Line — which disappointingly suggests that the stand-up scene in the show will be far less diverse than the one in real life.

The hour-long "I’m Dying Up Here" will be adapted from WIlliam Knoedelseder’s nonfic book of the same name, which looks at the “inspired and damaged psyches” of comedians.
