Prosecutor Marcia Clark Adapting Her Novel “Blood Defense” for Television

Marcia Clark: NBC News

Marcia Clark, who became famous as the prosecutor on the O.J. Simpson murder trial, will adapt her novel “Blood Defense,” for television.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that NBC has committed to a pilot for the legal drama, which Clark will co-write along with writer-producers Elizabeth Craft and Sara Fain.

The book centers on Samantha Brinkman, “a relentless criminal defense attorney in Los Angeles whose world is turned upside down when she is hired to defend a police detective in a high-profile homicide. It thrusts her into the public spotlight, exposing dark secrets from her past.”

Clark no doubt culled from her own experiences in law and on the Simpson trial, one of the most high-profile cases in history, which launched her into the public eye. She recently came back into the spotlight as a result of the success of FX’s “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story,” which depicted the sexist treatment she received from the media while the trial took place. Sarah Paulson earned an Emmy nomination for playing Clark in the anthology series.

Clark’s other book series focuses on a prosecutor named Rachel Knight and includes the novels “The Competition,” “ Killer Ambition,” “Guilt by Degrees,” and “Guilt by Association.”
