Quote of the Day: Gina Prince-Bythewood Supports ACLU Action, Declares “Talent Has No Gender”

nullDirector Gina Prince-Bythewood ("Beyond the Lights," "The Secret Life of Bees") has released a statement voicing her support of the ACLU’s request for the government to investigate sexist hiring practices in Hollywood.

"7%. Numbers don’t lie, and the numbers don’t change," Prince-Bythewood told The Hollywood Reporter. "There is no acceptable explanation for it. Talent has no gender."

The 7% figure above refers to the fact that only 7% of the 250 top-grossing movies of 2014 were helmed by women

Prince-Bythewood added, "Let’s see what the ACLU can do. I applaud their efforts."

This is far from the first time Prince-Bythewood has called out Hollywood sexism. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, Prince-Bythewood was honored at this year’s Athena Film Festival, and in her acceptance speech, she described the lack of female-centric Best Picture Oscar nominees and the absence of women in writing and directing categories as "dangerous."
