Reese Witherspoon to Receive Palm Springs Film Festival’s Chairman Award for ‘Wild’

The Reese-surgence is in full swing.

Reese Witherspoon will receive the Chairman Award from the Palm Springs International Film Festival (Jan. 2–12), an institution rife with Academy voters, for her critically lauded performance in Wild.

“Witherspoon delivers one of her finest performances in Wild,” commented PSIFF chairman Harold Matzner. “[She] brilliantly brings to life the true story of Cheryl Strayed, adding yet another iconic performance to her impressive 20-year span of characters.”

Previous recipients of the Chairman Award include Ben Affleck, George Clooney, Richard Gere, Tom Hanks, Dustin Hoffman, and Nicole Kidman.

Julianne Moore and Rosamund Pike will also be feted at next year’s PSIFF for Still Alice and Gone Girl, respectively.

Open now in NY and LA and expanding further on December 5, Wild is the adaptation of Cheryl Strayed’s memoir about hiking 1,100 miles up the Pacific Crest Trail to mourn her mother and find inner peace.
