Trailer Watch: Katniss Everdeen Finishes What She Started in ‘Mockingjay — Part 2’

The last installment of “The Hunger Games” franchise is nearly upon us, and a new trailer has been released for the final chapter of Katniss Everdeen’s epic journey with suitably epic drums.

The “Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2,” spot begins with Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) sharing a tender moment with her sister Primrose (Willow Shields), but it’s not long before the real action begins with Katniss rallying the troops. The citizens of Panem are prepared to wage war against the Capitol and President Snow, whose violent and suffocating rule has not only made sport and entertainment of the 99 percent’s gruesome deaths, but ensured gross inequality across the Districts.

“We all have one enemy and that’s President Snow,” declares Katniss. “He corrupts everyone and everything. He turns the best of us against each other. Stop killing for him. Tonight, turn your weapons to the Capitol. Turn your weapons to Snow.”

And what’s a revolution without cool special effects? The trailer is action-packed with plenty of explosions and fight scenes.

As with previous promo material for “Mockingjay — Part 2,” there is little — nay, any — focus on how the love triangle between Katniss, Peeta and Gale will be resolved. Refreshingly, it’s Katniss’s role as a heroine that’s being emphasized — delivering rousing speeches, leading the forces and gripping her iconic bow and arrow.

In addition to Elizabeth Banks, Natalie Dormer and Gwendoline Christie, both of “Game of Thrones” fame, co-star.

The Girl on Fire is set to light up the box office yet again with a huge opening on November 20. (Tickets are already on sale!)
