Trailer Watch: Rebecca Ferguson’s Spy Mission is Compromised By Love in ‘Despite the Falling Snow’

Rebecca Ferguson stole the show in “Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation,” and now the Swedish actress is headlining her own spy story. Ferguson takes the lead in Shamim Sarif’s “Despite the Falling Snow,” a Moscow-set love story that takes place in the midst of the Cold War. A newly released trailer shows Katya Grinkova (Ferguson) torn between fulfilling her mission and remaining true to her heart.

Katya’s target is Soviet politician Alexander Ivanov (Sam Reid, “Belle”). In an effort to gain his trust, she begins an affair with him, and despite the false pretenses of their relationship, things begin to feel very real for Katya. “You need to be careful,” she’s warned. “You start off playing a role, and suddenly it doesn’t feel like acting to people.”

Sarif penned the script for “Despite the Falling Snow,” an adaptation of her 2004 book of the same name. The film opens in the U.K. on April 15. No word on a U.S. release date.

Ferguson has a busy year ahead with roles in “The Girl on the Train” and “Florence Foster Jenkins.”
