Watch: New ‘Wonder Woman’ Footage Offers Peek of the Superheroine We’ve Been Waiting For

Wonder Woman TrailerWe finally have the chance to see Wonder Woman as the star of her own film. And from the looks and sounds of it, our long-awaited superheroine is everything we could hope for.

Warner Bros. released the first footage from Patty Jenkins’s "Wonder Woman" during a "Dawn of the Justice League" special that aired Tuesday on The CW, and the promo identifies the titular character as a "feminist cultural icon" who "stands for equality." Looks like Warner Bros. isn’t too concerned about alienating fanboys who don’t want to see a movie about a powerful woman. In fact, the studio is putting a real emphasis on the significance of Wonder Woman’s gender.

The promo touches on the mythology behind "Wonder Woman," and Gal Gadot, who will portray the legendary comic book character on the big screen, promises "We’re going to see her coming of age — her entire history [and] what’s her mission."

"The greatest thing about Wonder Woman is how good and kind and loving she is, yet none of that negates any of her power," adds Jenkins, who helmed "Monster."

The spot includes Wonder Woman, who is named "the best fighter in the DC universe," in battle with sword and shield. She’s been "training her whole life for war" — and it shows.

Check out the clip below, which features spot-on commentary from one of the film’s stars, Chris Pine, about why this female-centric story is so timely.

"Wonder Woman" will finally make its way to theaters June 23, 2017.
