Zero Dark Thirty Wins Big with the National Board of Review

nullKathryn Bigelow is on a roll. After receiving Best Director, Best Film and Best Cinematography (for Greig Fraser) for Zero Dark Thirty from the New York Film Critics Circle on Monday, the film continues to rack up the accolades.

Yesterday the National Board Of Review named Bigelow Best Director, Zero Dark Thirty for Best Picture and Jessica Chastain for Best Actress.

To say that Bigelow isn’t a huge Oscar contender this year would be a vast understatement.  Other winners include: Ann Dowd as Best Supporting Actress for Compliance,  Quvenzhané Wallis, as a breakthrough actress for Beasts Of The Southern WildCentral Park Five co-directed by Sarah Burns won the Freedom of Expression Award, and three of the five top documentaries are directed by women including: Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry directed by Alison Klayman; Detropia directed by Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady; and Only The Young co-directed by Elizabeth Mims.

The consensus from the awards prognosticators is that NBR doesn't really matter in the big picture, but it never hurts to win and get noticed since today everyone is talking about Zero Dark Thirty and its second best picture win.
