The program for the 2012 Berlinale is rolling out. 20 international films have been announced for inclusion in the Panorama section. Five are directed by women. Keeping count that is just 20%.
They include:
Dollhouse by Kirsten Sheridan, Ireland | With Seana Kerslake, Jonny Ward, Ciaran McCabe, Kate Brennan, Shane Curry
Elles by Malgoska Szumowska, France/Poland/Germany | With Juliette Binoche, Anais Demoustier, Joanna Kulig
L’âge atomique by Héléna Klotz, France | With Eliott Paquet, Dominik Wojcik
Mommy Is Coming by Cheryl Dunye, Germany | With Maggie Tapert, Ignacio Rivera
The Woman Who Brushed Off Her Tears by Teona Strugar Mitevska, Macedonia/Germany/Slovenia/Belgium | With Victoria Abril, Labina Mitevska, Jean Marie Galey, Arben Bajraktaraj
Elles is one of the films opening the section ( I caught that film in Toronto and was able to speak with the director).
About 30 more films will be announced. The Berlin International Film Festival runs from February 9–19.
