2018 Emmy Nominations: Tiffany Haddish, Sandra Oh, Issa Rae, and More

Oh in "Killing Eve"

Tiffany Haddish can add Emmy nominee to her rapidly expanding list of accolades. The 2018 Emmy nominations are in, and the “Girls Trip” breakout just scored her first-ever nod for hosting “SNL.” She made history as the first black female comic to host the variety show. “Insecure” co-creator and star Issa scored her first Emmy nomination for her acting in the fan favorite HBO comedy. After five nods in the supporting category for her role as Dr. Christina Chang on “Grey’s Anatomy,” Sandra Oh received her first nod as a leading actress in a drama — and the first nod for an Asian woman ever in this category — for spy thriller “Killing Eve,” which also landed the show’s creator, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, her first nomination. She’s the only woman up for Writing For A Drama Series.

Dystopian drama “The Handmaid’s Tale” racked in a whopping 20 nominations, including a nod for Kari Skogland, who is in the running for Directing For A Drama Series. No other women are featured in that category.

Women are completely shut out of the Directing For A Limited Series, Movie, Or Dramatic Special category, and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” creator Amy Sherman-Palladino is the lone woman up for Directing for a Comedy Series. Sherman-Palladino is also nominated for Outstanding Writing For A Comedy Series. Joining her in that category are Stefani Robinson (“Atlanta”) and Liz Sarnoff (“Barry”).

Women-centric series up for best Comedy Series are “GLOW,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” and “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.” “The Handmaid’s Tale” and “The Crown” are among the titles in the running for the outstanding Drama Series category.

Jennifer Fox’s critically acclaimed HBO movie “The Tale” earned two nods. The sexual abuse drama is up for Outstanding Television Movie and Laura Dern is in the race for Lead Actress In A Limited Series Or Movie. She took home a trophy last year for her supporting role in “Big Little Lies.”

Viola Davis was snubbed in the Lead Actress in a Drama Series category, but the “How To Get Away With Murder” star did nab a nod for her guest spot in “Scandal.”

Cinematographers up for honors include Paula Huidobro (“Barry”) and Dana Gonzales (“Legion”).
