Among the films set to premiere in the Un Certain Regard section at the upcoming Cannes film festival is “Rodeo,” Lola Quivoron’s narrative feature directorial debut. Now, thanks to a teaser trailer premiered by Variety, we can get our first taste of the film’s energy.
Written by Quivoron with Antonia Buresi, who also stars, “Rodeo” follows a hot-tempered, rough-around-the-edges young French woman, Julia (newcomer Julie Ledru), who has a passion for motorcycles, and finds herself drawn into the world of illicit gatherings for dirt bike riders, also known as rodeos.
Judging by the trailer, the film looks to be packed full of action set pieces, with Julia and the other characters pulling off dangerous stunts on their bikes for clout. Some of the guys in this super macho world don’t seem too happy about her presence but one of them calls her “the goose that lays golden eggs.”
Quivoron is the writer-director of short films “Son of the Wolf” and “Au loin, Baltimore.” She was nominated for the live action short film grand jury prize at AFI Fest for the latter. Quivoron and Buresi co-directed the documentary “Headshot: Roulette russe.”
Cannes Film Festival takes place May 17-28.
