Natalie Portman might be heading for her second Best Actress Oscar. As Deadline reports, the biopic “Jackie,” in which Portman plays Jackie Kennedy before and after the assassination of JFK, has been bought by Fox Searchlight, who plans an awards season-friendly release.
The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival to great acclaim and is also screening at the Toronto International Film Festival.
“‘Jackie’ is a daring, one-of-a-kind cinematic portrayal of a beloved icon. Led by an indelible performance from Natalie Portman and supported by a richly talented ensemble of actors and artists, the film is one we are thrilled to bring to audiences later this year,” said Fox Searchlight presidents Steve Gilula and Nancy Utley in a statement.
Portman won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2011 for her starring role in “Black Swan,” another Fox Searchlight film.
“Jackie” will hit U.S. theaters on December 9, meaning Portman has a definite shot at another nomination and award by playing the iconic woman, and if you’re in doubt, just check out this clip below courtesy of The Playlist.
