Zoe Kravitz has booked a new gig, and it sounds awesome. The actress will star as a hitwoman in “Black Belle,” a Western set shortly after the Civil War.
Deadline reports that the film will follow “a loner/bounty hunter who specializes in revenge killing when a client shows up with information about her mother’s murderer. It takes a turn when she realizes just who the alleged killer really is.”
Shana Betz (“Free Ride”) will direct a script by Tasha Huo. Huo, a former assistant at Universal, scored a WGA deal through The Black List and Warner Bros for a writing sample titled “The Darkness,” which has been expanded as “Black Belle.”
Kravitz is no stranger to the action genre. She just starred as Toast the Knowing in Women and Hollywood’s favorite summer blockbuster (so far), the surprisingly feminist “Mad Max: Fury Road.” Kravitz played an abductee in the film, but under the guidance of “The Vagina Monologues” playwright Eve Ensler, director George Miller ensured that Toast and her fellow sexual prisoners were portrayed not just as victims, but survivors. Kravitz is also a part of the “Divergent” franchise.
Production for “Black Belle” will begin in September.
