Netflix Orders Supernatural Drama from Leah Rachel, Akela Cooper to Serve as Showrunner

Cooper: Truman State University

Netflix has secured your next binge-watching obsession. The streamer has given a 10-episode series order to “Chambers,” an hourlong supernatural drama. According to Deadline, the project is written and created by actress-writer-director Leah Rachel (“Dating Rules from My Future Self”) with Akela Cooper (“The 100,” “Luke Cage”) signed on as showrunner.

“Chambers” follows “a young heart attack survivor [who] becomes consumed by the mystery surrounding the heart that saved her life. However, the closer she gets to uncovering the truth about her donor’s sudden death, the more she starts taking on the characteristics of the deceased — some of which are troublingly sinister,” the source summarizes.

Rachel and Cooper are among the project’s executive producers. No word on when it will debut on the streaming giant.

Cooper seems like a great fit for “Chambers.” “I love genre,” she said back in 2015. “I was born and raised a sci-fi nerd. Both my parents were heavily into genre. We watched ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation,’ ‘Babylon 5,’ ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,’ ‘seaQuest,’ ‘Farscape,’ ‘Battlestar Galatica,’ ‘The X-Files.’ That was my bread and butter growing up, so I love working in genre television.” She emphasized, “If I never work in anything outside of genre, I wouldn’t be sad, honestly. If I could continue making a living writing for genre, I’ll do it and I’ll be happy to do it.”
