Academy Award nominated composer Alexandre Desplat who has scored Zero Dark Thirty spoke with Steve of Collider.com about another film he worked on Rise of the Guardians, and Desplat took the opportunity to say some really interesting things about Zero Dark Thirty.
He talked about the challenges he faced in scoring the film but it was his overall comments about the film that give me pause.
It’s the best thing that she has ever done. It’s fabulous; she’s a master director. She’s a genius, it’s a film that’s incredible.
That is a serious statement because women directors don’t get called masters or geniuses.
But then it got me thinking about how amazing it would be if this film was that good and that it became another potential Oscar winner. Yes, she is already in the conversation with the film sight unseen, but this is first time we have information from someone who has actually seen the film. And wouldn’t it be great to have her in the competition where none of the conversation would refer to her competing against her ex-husband? I would like to see that.
So the question to ask is, could Zero Dark Thirty bring Kathryn Bigelow her second Best Director Oscar?
