Looking back on the last two weeks this was clearly the women’s Olympics. Aside from Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt it was the women’s stories that dominated the airwaves (at least here in the US.) This was the first year that the US sent more women athletes to the Olympics than men — 268 to 255. The medal take for the US women showed dominance with them winning 29 gold medals. That number puts the US behind China which won 38 and tied with Great Britain. US men won 17 gold medals.
And the US women came in 4th on the full medal list behind, US, China, and Great Britain with 58 total medals. US men had 45 medals.
But even though women athletes have made huge strives, this video from the Women’s Sports Foundation reminds us that there is still some work to be done.
Thanks for a great two weeks. Hopefully it won’t be four more years before we see some of you again.
