From my latest Forbes post on this weekend’s dispiriting Oscars:
“For the first time in my adult life, I really don’t care about the Oscars. I’ve been watching the Oscars for as long as I can remember — it was always a holy night for me — but this year, my interest is at an all-time low.
I know that is blasphemy, especially coming from a person who makes some (a little) money from ads on Women and Hollywood during Oscar season. The Oscars have become the movie-industrial complex, and there is a ton of money to be made from ads from studios purchasing on industry websites. Many people who write about the awards season make the bulk of their living during awards season.
But it’s gotten so depressing to look at my twitter feed to see back-and-forth references to “Boyhood” and “Birdman” all day long.
Boys and men — that about sums it up.”
