ABC to Air Modern-Day ‘Little Women’ Miniseries Starring Natascha McElhone

Twenty years after the big-screen adaptation starring Susan Sarandon, Winona Ryder, Claire Danes, and Kirsten Dunst, Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women will be translated for the screen again, this time as an ABC miniseries.

Natascha McElhone (Californication) is planned to star in and executive produce a modern update of the classic sororal tale. Not much is known about what Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy will be like in the 21st century, though I’m guessing (and hope!) that Beth won’t die from scarlet fever this time around.

The Hollywood Reporter does note that the four sisters’ “coming of age [will take place] against the backdrop of a military scandal as their family loses its fortune and position [and] find themselves at odds with the conservative and traditional society in which they live.”

Julie Anne Robinson will direct and executive produce alongside McElhone.
