Women and Hollywood at Cannes 2019
During the 72nd Cannes Film Festival, Women and Hollywood Founder and Publisher Melissa Silverstein participated in the inaugural “Women on the Move” day, hosted a networking event for women in the industry, and spoke with Anna Smith on her podcast “Girls On Film.”
“Women on the Move” – May 19, 2019
“Women on the Move” saw European institutions, private and public organizations, and stakeholders from the audiovisual and film industries come together in order to discuss the issue of gender balance.
The program featured the conversation “Gender Parity Pledge: Where Are We One Year Later?”, in which participants discussed the impact of the pledge, which was launched at Cannes 2018. The “Where Are We One Year Later?” panel was moderated by Silverstein and organized by Collectif 50/50.

At the Irish Pavilion, women from all levels of the film industry came together to network. Silverstein hosted and Screen Ireland sponsored.
“Girls On Film – Episode 12: Cannes” – May 22, 2019
Silverstein joined host Anna Smith and fellow guest Delphyne Besse in a conversation about activism at Cannes and beyond. Recorded live at the UK Film Centre, the episode also includes reviews of Céline Sciamma’s “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” and Cannes classics such as Lynne Ramsay’s “We Need to Talk About Kevin.”
