“Adventure Time” Spinoff Centered on Fan Faves Fionna and Cake Ordered to Series at HBO Max

"Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake"

It’s more good news for fans of “Adventure Time”: HBO Max has given a series order to a new spinoff of the beloved animated series. According to a press release, the new show will center on the fearless sword-wielding adventurer Fionna, and her magical best friend, the talking cat known as Cake. With a working title of “Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake,” this latest expansion of the franchise set in the mysterious land of Ooo will explore the unlikely pair’s relationship across 10 episodes.

With the help of the former Ice King, Simon Petrikov, Fionna and Cake will embark on a multiverse-hopping adventure and journey of self-discovery while a powerful new antagonist, determined to track them down and erase them from existence, lurks in the shadows.

Said Sam Register, President of Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios: “‘Adventure Time’ broke boundaries and was a shining example of how impactful animated storytelling can be. We are excited to partner with HBO Max to carry that tradition on to new heights, lands, and magical worlds.” The franchise has received recognition from GLAAD for its efforts at LGBTQ+ representations in kids and family programming.

While the Peabody Award-winning original series ended in 2018, it has been followed by three one-hour original specials, “Adventure Time: Distant Lands.” The fourth, “Wizard City,” will premiere this fall.

No word if voice actors Madeleine Martin (Fionna) and Roz Ryan (Cake) will be reprising their roles in the new series.
