Alice Rohrwacher has begun shooting her follow-up to “The Wonders,” Variety reports. Set in the present, “Lazzaro Felice” centers on a man who travels through time. Rohrwacher penned the script. The pic stars Sergi Lopez (“Pan’s Labyrinth”), Alba Rohrwacher (“I Am Love”), and Nicoletta Braschi (“Life Is Beautiful”).
“Cameras started rolling Monday in the central Italian countryside near Civita di Bagnoregio, a scenic ancient village perched on an eroding tufa rock plateau,” the source writes. Capturing all this beauty is the Italian writer-director’s frequent collaborator, director of photography Helene Louvart.
“Lazzaro Felice’s” international rights outside of Italy will be sold by The Match Factory.
Rohrwacher’s last feature, “The Wonders,” won the 2014 Grand Jury Prize at Cannes Film Festival. It was one of just two films directed by women that screened in Competition that year. Her breakout came with 2011’s “Corpo celeste,” which also premiered at Cannes.
“To everyone, male and female, I can only pass on what I have received from my parents: work, work, work. Something will come out of it,” Rohrwacher told us when we asked what advice she’d give other women directors.
