Alicia Vikander’s “Tomb Raider” reboot now has a release date. Multiple outlets have reported that we’ll see Vikander take on the famous role of Lara Croft on March 16, 2018.
Vikander took the gig not long after winning her Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in “The Danish Girl” earlier this year.
The original “Tomb Raider” video game was released in 1996 and became one of the most successful games ever. It was adapted into a film in 2001 with Angelina Jolie as the titular character, and a sequel came out in 2003.
But Jolie’s films weren’t well received, and while reboots of old properties are becoming cliche, many agree that this is one franchise that was never given the right mood or attention.
Vikander’s latest film, “Tulip Fever,” was mysteriously pushed from a July 15 opening to a February, 2017 opening mere days from release. This year, she’ll also appear in “Jason Bourne” and “The Light Between the Oceans.”
