If you thought perfecting a croquembouche at home was difficult, just imagine the added stress that comes with being filmed by a camera crew, trying to outdo other bakers making magic in the kitchen, and being critiqued by culinary giants. “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” co-creator Aline Brosh McKenna will mine the drama of it all in “The Golden Spoon,” a dark comedy set in the world of TV baking competitions. Deadline reports that Hulu is developing the project.
Based on the upcoming novel by Jessica Olien, the limited series is a murder mystery that “tells the story behind the scenes of everyone’s favorite comfort show — a story of feuding hosts, sabotaged recipes, and the hapless contestants who must solve the crime before it’s too late,” per the source.
Brosh McKenna serves as showrunner and is among the project’s exec producers. The “Devil Wears Prada” screenwriter is under an overall deal with Hulu. She’s re-teaming with her “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” collaborator Rachel Bloom on “Badass (And Her Sister),” a comedy in development at the streamer about a spy and her pushover sister. Brosh McKenna is set to make her feature directorial debut, Reese Witherspoon-starrer “Your Place or Mine,” for Netflix.
