Amy Poehler is directing her first movie and taking plenty of “SNL” friends along on the vino-filled journey. Variety reports that the “Parks and Recreation” alumna will helm, produce, and star in “Wine Country,” a Netflix comedy with a star-studded cast that includes Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph, Rachel Dratch, Paula Pell, and Emily Spivey. The latter penned the script alongside another former “SNL” writer, Liz Cackowski.
Scheduled to begin shooting later this month, the pic sees long-time friends celebrating a 50th birthday with a weekend getaway to Napa.
Poehler is among the project’s producers. She is producing via her Paper Kite Productions. The “Inside Out” actress previously helmed eps of “Parks and Recreation” and “Broad City,” both of which she exec produced. The Emmy and a Golden Globe winner starred in the former from 2009 to 2015.
“Wine Country” isn’t the only project Poehler has in the works with Netflix. She’s serving as exec producer on an upcoming comedy series for the streamer about a never-ending party starring “Orange Is the New Black’s” Natasha Lyonne.
