Amy Schumer Gets HBO Special Teaser, Speaks Out for Gun Control at Locarno Film Fest

Another week, another round of Amy Schumer headlines. This time around, the net is abuzz with chatter of Schumer’s upcoming HBO stand-up special, which has a new “announcement teaser.” (We’ve never heard of an announcement teaser — but power to the premium cable network and its effort to capitalize on Schumer’s newfound mainstream popularity. Besides, we’re happy to see footage, however brief, from “Amy Schumer: Live from the Apollo.”)

Schumer, who mentions that she has been on the road doing stand-up for 11 years, is in fine form here, getting things rolling by sharing, “I was having a little wine, weed and an Ambien — or as I call it, tucking myself in.” And, of course, the “Trainwreck” star has bawdy anecdotes aplenty, ranging in topics from anal sex to werewolf-esque hair in her nether regions.

If you’ve been following the aftermath of the tragic shooting at a Louisiana screening of “Trainwreck,” you know that, while Schumer has become a star by being one of the funniest people alive about feminism, recent events have forced her to publicly embrace other politics as well. Schumer has teamed up with her cousin, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), to advocate for “common-sense solutions” to gun control, namely a thorough background-check system “without holes and fatal flaws.”

The Peabody winner appeared in Switzerland last week to premiere “Trainwreck” at the Locarno Film Festival and elaborated on America’s unsatisfactory gun policies and her decision to speak up. “I just felt the need to get involved because of how personal that event felt and how upset it made me feel,” she explained. While Schumer admitted that gun control “isn’t really [her] area of expertise,” she is frustrated by “what’s going on in our Congress and why this has been such an ongoing issue.”

“Amy Schumer: Live from the Apollo” will premiere on HBO October 17.
