Amy Schumer Making Mother-Daughter Comedy with Paul Feig

In what feels like a match made in heaven, Amy Schumer is set to team up with proven female-comedy-lover Paul Feig (“Spy,” “The Heat,” “Bridesmaids”). The rising star will act in a mother-daughter film about a vacation gone awry, with Feig attached as a producer. Schumer will co-write the script with her sister Kim Caramele, who serves as a producer and writer on “Inside Amy Schumer.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two will be “reworking the initial script written by Katie Dippold to put the main character in Schumer’s voice.”

It’s only May, but 2015 is already shaping up to be a banner year for Schumer. For those who have failed to register the comedienne’s increasingly rapid world dominance, let’s revisit some of her more remarkable accomplishments in the past few months.

The titular star of Comedy Central’s “Inside Amy Schumer,” who also created, writes, and executive produces the sketch series, won a prestigious Peabody Award. She garnered excellent reviews for writing and starring in the SXSW hit “Trainwreck.” She was selected as CinemaCon’s Breakthrough Performer of the Year. Schumer hosted the MTV Movie Awards. Perhaps most exciting of all, “Inside Amy Schumer,” currently in its third season, is at long last considered must-see TV. The series has been consistently delivering hilarious and biting laugh-out-loud humor since its first episode, but for whatever reason, it’s finally getting the recognition it deserves, with multiple segments going viral on a weekly basis such as “Last F**kable Day” and “Girl, You Don’t Need Makeup.” A fourth season has already been confirmed.

As our TV columnist Sara Stewart noted, “No one is currently better than Schumer at sending up the ways in which women are taken apart by gender stereotypes (not infrequently, as she’s fond of pointing out, at the hands of other women).” Schumer has rightfully taken her spot on the throne as this generation’s truth-teller.

“Trainwreck” opens July 17, while “Inside Amy Schumer” airs Tuesday nights on Comedy Central.
