It’s turning out to be a great year for Amy Schumer. She co-hosted the Oscars with Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes, announced a new stand-up tour, and debuted a series on Hulu. Now news has broken that a second season of the latter is on the way. A press release has announced that Hulu has renewed “Life & Beth,” “one of [its] top performing Original comedies.”
Schumer stars in, executive produces, and is the creator of “Life & Beth,” as well as its frequent writer and director. The semi-autobiographical dramedy sees its titular character (Schumer) reexamining her life, priorities, and desires in the wake of her mother’s sudden death. Her journey includes reflecting on a formative experience during her early teens. Violet Young portrays Beth in flashbacks. Michael Cera and Susannah Flood are also among the cast.
“Life & Beth” premiered March 18. It has a certified “Fresh” score of 91 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
Schumer previously created the Emmy- and Peabody-winning sketch series “Inside Amy Schumer.” She scored multiple nods for acting, writing, directing, and producing the Comedy Central hit, and took home the Outstanding Variety Sketch Series statuette in 2015.
The multi-hyphenate also penned and toplined feature comedy “Trainwreck,” has released several stand-up specials, and chronicled her difficult pregnancy for the HBO Max docuseries “Expecting Amy.” Schumer counts “The Humans,” “I Feel Pretty,” and “Snatched” among her acting gigs.
