Amy Seimetz’s “She Dies Tomorrow” Acquired by Neon

"She Dies Tomorrow"

“She Dies Tomorrow’s” world premiere didn’t go as planned, but the film has secured distribution nonetheless. Amy Seimetz’s thriller was slated to debut at this year’s SXSW film festival, which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fortunately, the pic still found a home. Neon snagged global rights to the Kate Lyn Sheil-starrer. Deadline confirmed the news.

Written and directed by Seimetz, the apocalyptic tale sees Amy (Sheil), “a woman ravaged by the notion that she is going to die tomorrow,” sent “down a dizzying emotional spiral. When Amy’s skeptical friend Jane (Jane Adams) discovers Amy’s feeling of imminent death to be contagious, they both begin bizarre journeys through what might be the last day of their lives,” the source details.

Release plans will be announced at a later date.

“Amy Seimetz is a bold new voice, and with the groundbreaking ‘She Dies Tomorrow’ has easily created one of the most prescient films of the decade,” Neon said. “We’re thrilled to be able to bring this unique and incredible SXSW premiere to audiences all around the world.”

Best known as for co-creating, directing, writing, and acting in Starz’s “The Girlfriend Experience,” Seimetz made her feature directorial debut with 2012’s “Sun Don’t Shine.” She later directed episodes of “Atlanta.” “Pet Sematary,” “Stranger Things,” and “The Killing” are among her acting credits.

“There was no intellectual plan to whatever I’ve been doing,” Seimetz has said. “It’s me focusing on my own work and then suddenly getting opportunities. A lot of people that I work with think that you just suddenly make something and you’re suddenly successful. For me, that wasn’t the case. I worked a long time, and I worked for free a long time. I had many jobs outside of the film industry. I didn’t grow rich. I fought tooth and nail to learn my craft. I’m so much more about longevity, understanding your craft, and finding out what you’re searching for.”
