The Palladinos are all in on Amazon. Variety reports that Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino have extended their overall pact with Amazon Studios, the home of their award-winning dramedy “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” The creative collaborators and spouses originally inked at deal with Amazon in fall 2017.
Sherman-Palladino created “Mrs. Maisel,” which follows a ’50s housewife (Rachel Brosnahan) who embarks on a career in standup comedy after her husband leaves her. She and Palladino both write, direct, and exec produce on the series.
“Amy and Dan have a remarkable partnership, grounded in their complete trust in each other and evidenced by the magic they create on-screen — especially with revolutionary roles for women and with their trademark brilliant dialogue,” stated Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke. “We celebrate the critical success of ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ and our extended overall deal with them, which will allow our Amazon Prime audience to continue to enjoy their groundbreaking show and future original series from this incredible duo.”
“We did everything we possibly could to scare them off, but nothing worked,” joked Sherman-Palladino. “So now we happily plant our flag in Amazon world.”
Last year Sherman-Palladino became the first woman to win both the best comedy writing and best comedy directing prizes at the Emmys. “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” also nabbed best comedy series and several other trophies at the ceremony. Two Golden Globes, three SAG Awards, two PGA Awards, and a Peabody are among the series’ many other accolades. Last month Sherman-Palladino received the PGA’s Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television.
Sherman-Palladino created “Gilmore Girls,” its 2016 revival “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life,” and “Bunheads.” She’s written, directed, and exec produced on all those projects, as has Palladino.
Season 2 of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” bowed in December on Amazon Prime. A third season has been confirmed.
